Andalusite is special because of its color.  The gem can be green, red, brown, yellow or more depending on the angle you turn it in the light.  When the stone is cut, it can look quite spectacular as the facets reflect the light as well as the varying colors. 

Andalusite is not particularly expensive - pieces usually cost in the low hundreds.  However, it is more of an obscure, collector's stone and therefore it can be difficult to find.  Andalusite is a durable gem and can be used in rings and bracelets.
